Kaleidoscope / Mandala Screensavers
for Macintosh

The screensavers on this page are beta/demo versions for Macintosh OS X.

I am in the process of porting all the screensavers on this website (including MetaScope) to the Mac and to Linux. I am being assisted in this work by the inimitable Eugene Hourany.

Some of these applications are not full-blown screensavers yet - they are standalone apps, but you can still see these beautiful mandalas in motion. You can take screen snapshots by pressing the P key, and change the mirror arrangement by pressing the numbers 1-7.

Sparkletts makes pictures out of smudges of light, like a light organ. It uses a pretty radial blur effect that makes it "shiny". Mesmerizing.
Got Neon has pictures of common neon signs seen in bars and restaurants. I animated them so that the signs blink like real neon signs. This is a pretty kaleidoscope, although it tends to make me thirsty for some reason...
Got Fruit? contains pictures of fruit and vegetables, mostly. There's also a box of Ring Dings and a bagel. It looks a bit like one of those "Fruitopia" commercials. These pictures were originally used on the now defunct 'Home Grocer' service. They make a damn fine kaleidoscope.
Escher has engravings by noted artist M.C. Escher. It's a strikingly beautiful kaleidoscope with high-contrast black and white and tinted images.
Escher Zoom also contains some Escher images. It uses an interesting 'continuous zoom' effect and does amusing things to your eyes if you look at for too long.

Press M to toggle the mirror effect.

Cloud Zoom uses a continuous zoom effect similar to the one employed in Escher Zoom, but in this case it is used to create the sensation of flying through clouds.

Press M to toggle the mirror effect.

New screensavers (and improved versions of these betas) will be appearing on this page over the next few days. Expect a Macintosh version of MetaScope before the end of the year!
