I just ordered the Ascent based on your review and excellent pictures posted. It is a beutiful object of functional simplicty. I look forward to building it. However, I am even more of a wood novice than you. Are there any hints that you may have thought about later that are not in your review? Recommendations?

And did you finish the Athena? And did you write up another excellent review?

Thanks for the excellent post. I look forward to reading how accurately you are able to get the wooden skeleton clock to run. I find it pretty cool that pendulum clocks were the most accurate timekeepers for nearly 300 years.

I didn't have that particular problem. The pendulum was the main issue for me...

I bought one of these kits and things were going well till I had to hammer the dowels into the center hole of the gears. It just does not want to go in straight and square. I am at the end of my patience and before I checked the whole thing away, I wanted to see of you have any suggestions.
Thanks

Great review! I am working on a ceiling lamp that has an hour hand whose shadow sweeps the room and I want to build the analog clock movement myself. Since I am only going to have one hand and I will be working off a motor powered off the 220v (I'm in Germany), I'm thinking that what I'm envisioning might be simple enough for me to design and build myself. You have lots of useful tips in your review!

I sell LED clock kits here:

<a href="http://www.ledkit.biz" rel="nofollow">http://www.ledkit.biz</a>

They are really big and you can put a wooden frame around the border.
